The Donald Stover Student Assistance Fund was established in March 1997 in memory of Donald Stover, who was the pastor of Faxon-Kenmar UMC until his untimely death in February 1997, by his wife, family and friends. The initial funds totaled $5,409. The fund was invested and only gifts were to be granted from the income of the fund. Today, the fund totals approximately $10,000, and is invested in the Faxon-Kenmar Endowment Fund through the Stewardship Foundation of our Conference. It has always been the Stover family’s desire that additional monies to the investment be added by anyone interested in the purpose of this fund. Additional monies can be given at any time and needs to be clearly marked for the Stover Assistance Fund.As of this year, 26 students have received scholarships from this fund,; and $9,350 has been awarded in scholarship money. Most of the award money comes from FUND RAISING due to the poor stock market, I am sure the students join the committee in thanking those who support the different fund raising that has taken place. The committee took time this year to come up with new fund raising ideas, please SUPPORT the fund raising of the STOVER SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE. The cost of a college education is ridiculously high today, yet without one, OUR students' futures are at risk. REMEMBER, these kids are our FUTURE. Applications are received in May and a Committee reviews the applications and makes decisions on the scholarships to be given by criteria established by the Stover family and founding committee members. The scholarships are not solely based on financial need but also on school and church participation, as well as service to God. On May 25th Brian Gottschall & Josh Broshkevitch were awarded Stover Scholarships. Congratulations! |
