“Create a Legacy: Commitment-Community-Challenge”Starting Sunday October 19 our congregation will enter into a four week pledge period for our Capital Funds Campaign. We will continue to accept pledges through Sunday November 16. Now is the time to begin praying about how much you will commit to this important campaign, the purpose of which is two-fold:
The Capital Campaign Committee is aware that these are financially difficult times and the economy is un-certain. Some of us will be able to give more than others. We all may want to give more that we are able, but the important question to meditate on here is not so much the size of our gift, but the sacrifice. The amount of our gifts will differ, but the sacrifice should be the same. Remember the story of the Widow's Mite? Here's the story from Luke's Gospel: 1As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3"I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her pov-erty put in all she had to live on." Luke 21:1-4 The underlying principle from this Scripture that we can apply to our Capital Campaign is that every member should be challenged equally: Not Equal Gifts, But Equal Sacrifice. In closing, we must remember to pray for the Capital Campaign. We cannot stress enough the importance of prayer and seeking God's direction in making these decisions. When God's people pray extraordi-nary things happen! May God lead and guide you as you seek to answer his call. -Pastor Bill for the Capital Campaign Committee
