Today is Ash Wednesday. As United Methodists we observe this Holy Day, although traditionally it has been observed primarily by Roman Catholics. The ashes used on Ash Wednesday are meant to represent dust. When receiving ashes on their foreheads, parishioner hear the words: “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” This saying is a reminder to be humble. We are not giving ashes this year due to COVID-19.
